The United States presidential election of 1992 was the 52nd quadrennial presidential election. It was held on November 3, 1992. The three major candidates were Republican president George H.W. Bush, Democratic Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton, and independent Texas businessman Ross Perot. Clinton’s vice president was Albert Gore Jr. who was a senator from Tennessee and served in the Vietnam War. There were many things that Clinton accomplished during his presidency. For example, he cut welfare, put more police on the streets, built prisons, stepped up the war on drugs, and expanded the death penalty. However, in his presidential campaign he promised that there will be “no new taxes”, which he did not accomplish. He also wasn’t able to get health insurance for everyone, change the way we pay for political campaigns, and do much for public schools and never got to finishing them.
At around 1991, the Soviet Union collapsed. This happened due to Russia turning into a unfree, tyrannical, and clumsy nation. After the Soviet Union collapsed, the European Nations formed the European Union which supported free market economics. The once-mighty Soviet Union had fallen, largely due to the great number of reforms that Russian president at the time Mikhail Gorbachev had put during his six years as the leader of the USSR. However, Gorbachev was disappointed in the dissolution of his nation and resigned from his job on December 25. It was a peaceful end to a long and sometimes bloody time in world history. However, China saw this as an opportunity to gain freedom as well and they paraded around the statue of the “Goddess of Democracy”. This resulted to many Chinese students being injured and killed.
