Pac Man
The creation of Pac Man started with pizza. In 1979, a man of the name Toru Iwatani was looking at a pizza. It was missing two slices of pizza. Toru wanted to make a video game and the pizza gave him an idea of the basic character, Pac Man.
Pac Man was called pakkuman instead in it's early creation. It resulted in the Japanese phrase “paku-paku taberu”. The phrase resembles the sound that our mouth makes when we open and close it. This is exactly what Pac Man does in the popular game to eat the dots.
Iwatani wanted the game to appeal to all ages. That's when he thought of the maze idea. The game name was then changed to Puck Man before being released to the public.
Once the game was released to the public, many things were changed. That included difficulties of the game, and also the pace of the game. He then changed the name to a "F" instead of a "P". That didn't turn out so well.
People thought that a game called Rally-X was going to be the most popular game. Iwatani changed the name to Pac-Man and it ended up being the most popular game.

Fashion |
Fashion in the 1980's changed a lot. The main thing that stuck throughout the years, though, was color. It wasn't plain black, brown, or white. It was violet, baby blue, pink, green, etc.
Early 1980's fashion was pretty similar to the 1970's. Color and the waistline for both men and women were a little high. There wasn't a lot of change as the 70's switched to the 80's. Towards the mid-80's, fashion changed practically everyday. It depended on what the celebrities were wearing. Music videos were becoming the thing teens looked at for inspiration on clothing. Even if a celebrity wore an ugly dress, it was declared the latest fashion. Also, bright colored accessories were a great style. Hoop earrings, sunglasses, and bangles were the accessories girls wore. The 1980's were a crazy time. People could one day show up wearing a turtle neck and the next day skin tight cheetah pants. In 1987, people's love for wearing Coca-Cola brand clothing started. As the decade neared the end, people's fashion changed to wearing brands. Nike became one of the most profitable companies in the world. Nike became an enemy to Reebok for sportswear clothes. Nike, with the help of Micheal Jordan, won the battle, and became more popular. In 1988, every kid wanted Air Jordans and a Chicago Bulls baseball cap. In 1989, the trend for girls were more baggy. Cosby sweaters were the most popular. |
movies |
There were many movies that came out in the 1980’s. Roughly 1,800 movies were made in the 80's. Some 80's movies are still popular now.
The average price for a movie ticket in the 1980's was about $3.42. Today, a movie ticket costs about $8.35. There's a large difference in price. This is all with out popcorn, a drink, or candy. One of the movies that came out in the 1980’s was Back to the Future. It came out in 1985. It was one of the most successful franchises in Universal Studio's history. In the movie, Marty Mcfly (Michael J. Fox) is a time-traveler. One thing I think is fun, is in Back to the Future 2 (1989), it goes to the future in 2015. They believed that we would have hover boards and flying cars. Since the year is 2015 right now, it would be fun if you haven't seen the movie to check it out. Other popular movies you may have seen were Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Also, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, A Christmas Story, Gremlins, The Breakfast Club came out in the 1980's. Don't forget other big 80's movies, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Superman II, The Elephant Man, and The Outsiders. |
